Here's how to turn a simple glass jar into a pumpkin vase to hold a stash of candy for Halloween night....
A recovered 'vase
I started with a jar that had contained bath salts. It was very simple, in transparent glass, but with an interesting shape. The only drawback was the screwed neck.
Step 1
After a good cleaning, it was time to hide the neck and its "jar" aspect. I used a ceramic paste coating, which dries in two hours and is easy to handle. I deliberately left the finish natural, not too smooth.
Step 2
I applied two coats of special white undercoat for smooth surfaces, also on the collar. I didn't sand after drying, to preserve the grainy look and the roughness that resemble real pumpkin skin.
Step 3
I chose a true pumpkin-orange color for the body and a soft green for the collar, meant to reproduce the pumpkin's "tail". Again, the finish is deliberately natural (no sharp demarcation between body and collar) and I've highlighted the pumpkin's grooves with a few touches of green.
A little pumpkin for a special occasion
I'll give you a little extra: a coat of glossy finish to add shine.
