Halloween witch dress for Barbie
Halloween is just around the corner! Why not make a costume for your Barbie doll too?
This witch's dress is made from black stretch fabric. I also sewed and cobbled together a witch's hat and broom of course! Happy sewing!
This witch's dress is made from black stretch fabric. I also sewed and cobbled together a witch's hat and broom of course! Happy sewing!
What you need
- Top front: 2 rectangles : 4cm x 9cm (1 ½" x 3 ½" )
- Top back: 2 rectangles : 5cm x 9cm (2" x 3 ½" )
- Bottom front: 1 rectangle : 10cm x 18cm (4 " x 7" )
- Bottom back: 2 rectangles : 5cm x 18cm ( 2" x 7" )
- Sleeves : 2 rectangles of orange tulle : 10cm x 13cm (4" x 5" )
- Belt: orange ribbon or orange fabric 15cm (6")
- 2 snaps
Step 1: adjust the bottom fabric
- Fold bottom front fabric in half, place both bottom fabrics on top and pin.
- Draw a stitch at the top outside 2.5 cm from the side (1").
- Draw a stitch on the side 7.5 cm from the top.
- Draw a line and cut.
Step 2: Sew the bottom fabric
- Sew the bottom fabrics together (except the back).
- Don't sew all the way to the bottom so you can cut the fabric at the bottom for a witch effect.
- Cut at the bottom with triangles for the witch effect - no hemming.
Phase 3: Preparing the top fabric 1/2
- Pin the two front fabrics together. Draw a stitch 1cm (1/2") from the shoulder.
- Draw a second stitch on the inside from 6.5 Cm (2.5") from the bottom.
- Draw a line following these stitches, cut.
- Sew the two fabrics together in the middle, then hem the neckline.
Phase 4: Preparing the top fabrics 2/2
- Pin the two top back fabrics together. Draw a stitch at 1cm from the shoulders (1/2").
- Then draw a stitch at 5cm on the side from the bottom (2").
- Draw a line and cut.
- Sew a hem on each inner side of the fabric.
Phase 5:
- Sew the tops together at the shoulders.
Phase 6: Preparing the sleeves
- Fold the sleeves lengthwise and pin in place. We're going to cut them to make them triangular.
- We're going to cut from 4cm (1 ½") from the top, to the ends of the sleeves.
Step 7: Sew the sleeves
- Sew the sleeves to the top.
- Sew a hem to the sleeves.
Step 8: Draw the seam line
- Sew the top to the sides.
- Draw a line down the middle of the top 1.5cm from the bottom.
- Draw a stitch on each side of the top 2.5cm (1") away. Connect the stitches with the middle line.
- We'll follow the drawn line to sew the top and bottom of the dress together.
Step 9: Top and bottom stitching and finishing
Sew the top and bottom together.
- Sew the belt.
- Sew a hem on each side of the bottom hat for 2cm (3/4") so the doll can fit into the dress.
- Sew the dress on the back.
- Sew two snaps.
