Pyrography-decorated chest

Wooden chest decorated with pyrography
A jewelry box decorated with pyrography and a little wood stain, an activity to be discovered by teenagers thanks to basic pyrography models, generally supplied with 2 tips (one pointed and one flat) with a single heating temperature. here, pyrography's sole aim is to delimit zones in the wood, which then facilitates the painting stage. But artists who have mastered this delicate technique can create truly nuanced paintings, depending on the temperature of the device, which becomes a paintbrush under their expert hands...

Hardware

- a rough wooden object, like this softwood chest, or a jewelry box from the Fournitures Créatives store - woodstain (for creative hobbies, odourless) - acrylic gold paint - a brush - a tube of gold ring - and of course an electric pyrograver

Drawing stage

The aim is to draw a variety of patterns in pencil, either freehand or by transferring small drawings.

Place the pointed tip on the pyrograver and warm it up, resting it on its support (and watch out for the electric wire in the way!) Once it's hot, it's ready to use. It's a good idea to do a trial run or two on a wooden board to test the device and, in particular, the way the pyrograver rests on the wood. The point is to mark a line, not to burn the surrounding wood... With a light hand, simply pass over the pencil lines with the hot tip, never pressing down for longer.

Painting on jewelry boxes
The interior of the zones is painted with gold acrylic paint. The rest of the trunk is tinted with the chosen glaze in a warm tone: the glaze is liquid, but it won't overflow from one zone to the next thanks to the pyrogravure that blocks the passage of the tint into the fibers. Once the paint is dry, additional arabesques are drawn directly on the gold stain tube.
Be careful not to use the pyrograver on just any surface, as toxic fumes may escape. That's why you need untreated wood!
