A mask and hat for Carnival, just like in Venice


To complete a disguise, here's a funny mask for Carnival, in the style of the trompe-l'oeil masks of Venice, adapted here for a child.More than a mask, it's a headgear that takes up the principle of the double masks of Venice: here the mask is painted differently on each side, and it's also placed on the back of a large hat like a helmet with trompe-l'oeil effect...

The double mask
The mask is made of white plastic.
First, half the face is masked with gold spray paint in three layers. Then, arabesques, eyes and lips are painted with a fine brush of acrylic paint. The result is very resistant.

The hat the hat is made of cardboard, stapled to form a headband, and covered with fabric (also held in place with staples). A 1 cm diameter cotton-filled bead is attached to the top brim. Soft fabric is also attached to the inside of the hat, so that it rests firmly on the head (and isn't just a tube). A coarse-mesh gold collar is attached to the front, marking the bow shape. A gold ribbon finishes off the base, and a supple red ribbon is also attached as a fastening. A veil extends from the top of the hat, for added fantasy!
