Handicrafts with wooden letters

Handling large letters is an educational pleasure for kindergarten-age children, from 3 years upwards. It's all about starting to play with the letters of your first name, and then gradually discovering other letters. Vowels with clearly identifiable sounds are to be preferred. The natural material, wood, is a plus for these little toy objects. Playing with these letters doubles the fun!
The first manual activity is to touch the curves of the cut-out letters with the fingertips - tactile activities are at the heart of learning. The child can then draw the outline of each letter, then color the inside. Decorate the letters in relief to make a decoration for the bedroom, or magnets to stick on the kitchen fridge, or to stick on a frame that becomes a door panel - there's no shortage of ideas... here are just a few for children aged 6 to 10.
Wooden letters for manual activities

A very large collage letter

Large wooden letter
The initial of the child's first name was chosen for this craft, to be glued on the bedroom door. The letter was cut out of rough wood, then carefully sanded before being given to the child.
Pages from a magazine on a theme close to the child's heart - Lego Starwars ® - were cut out, some of them torn to reveal only the images, others cut with scissors to reveal only an interesting drawing.
The wood is progressively glued with glue varnish using a wide brush, then the papers are placed on top: the larger ones torn first, then glued again, and the smaller motifs placed on the front of the letter.
Once the letter is completely covered, let it dry and apply another coat of glue varnish to protect the decoration.
Only then can it be glued to the door, using Patafix for example.

Letters for a home-deco picture

Letters glued to a frame
Small wooden letters are ideal for "writing" on a home-deco decorated frame. Here the frame is painted in a plain tone, then a strip of perforated felt is glued on, a soft sticker mirror is glued on and finally the letters of the chosen words painted in white are glued on one by one. To align them, use a ruler. Each letter can then be decorated with dots, for example... See other home-deco paintings for little girls.
