Rocaille bead activity for children
Here are some simple models, suitable for children and young teenagers, who want to learn how to create jewelry with
seed beads and discover a new "seed bead" activity.
Materials
required
- Lots of seed beads, tubes if necessary,
- Alligator clips,
- Nylon thread,
- 2 clamping beads and a clasp.
The double necklace
The double structure of this necklace is enhanced by the long silver tubes, which break with the classic roundness of necklaces.
This involves using two nylon threads, which are grouped together halfway up the necklace.
Start at the bottom of the necklace, placing each tube and seed bead symmetrically. Stop on two large pearls that will make the junction.
Make the upper, shorter part: the same tubes are used, but the diameter of each pearl separating the tubes is smaller.
|
|
Join the two necklaces with the large beads and continue the necklace on either side with the double thread. The nylon thread makes it easy to thread the beads and tubes, even when doubled.
For the clasp: thread a clamping bead (a small silver or gold metal bead, depending on the color of your clasp) after your pearls. Pass the nylon thread through the clasp ring (already closed or to be closed with pliers), then back through the clamp bead and some of the necklace beads. Crush the clamp bead with the pliers and cut off the protruding piece of wire. This system avoids making a knot, which is never very elegant when made with nylon thread.
Thedouble pearl/tube bracelet
The bracelet is made on the same principle, with seed beads and tubes.

The
"loop" necklace
Another variation on a necklace in seed beads and nylon thread: the idea is to create a loop.
|
In this model, the loop is adorned with 3 beads in the shape of a "fan", giving it relief and a touch of originality.
Start by threading the beads, still with a symmetrical effect, into what will become the loop.
Shape the loop. For children, it's easier to tie a knot to secure the loop. The knot is then concealed beneath two large pearls.
Reuse the same sequence of pearls after the loop as the last pearls used before the knot: this creates a doubly symmetrical effect.
Continue to string the seed beads, then finish the necklace as described above.
