Crystal past and present
Crystal is created by a glassmaking process that involves adding lead oxide to the glass paste. Depending on the percentage of lead, the resulting crystal is extremely hard and transparent.
Bohemian crystal
Bohemian crystal originated in the 18th century, in a region of Central Europe (now the Czech Republic) where there were many deposits of semi-precious stones, and therefore many cutters and engravers who knew how to work them well.
More solid than Venetian glass, reminiscent of rock crystal, this crystal was a great success, as its hardness enabled it to be worked thickly and shaped into majestic forms, while retaining the transparency sought for the creation of luxurious objects (such as crystal chandeliers) and jewelry. even today, the region's largest crystal factories are located here, although they face competition from Chinese factories.

Swarovski crystal
