Decorative kings, fairies and angels

Here's how to make fairy-tale characters: kings, angels and fairies...

Materials required

Fairies and angels
  • Glue gun
  • Wooden skewer for the body
  • Hardening modeling paste for the head
  • Brass wire
  • Sheet of colored Canson paper
  • Florist's non-woven (sold by the meter in some garden centers or florists who are willing to give away a few meters). This non-woven is very inexpensive, about €0.80 per linear metre)
  • Canson metallized paper in assorted colors
  • Magic fiber or wool for hair and beard
  • Small paper or resin stars

Explanations

1 - The day before, prepare the head by forming small balls of hardening dough and placing them on a wooden skewer. Paint the face after drying. I prepare several heads which I dry by pricking the skewers on polystyrene.

2 - Prepare the paper templates for the corps des rois: - Take a dessert plate and a teacup - Cut out the colored Canson and the florist's non-woven using the dessert plate, cut out the metallized paper using the teacup. - Cut these circles in half. - Slightly reduce the non-woven so that the Canson protrudes by about 1/2 centimetre. - Cut out the metallized paper using the teacup

Character editing

3 - Lightly glue the non-woven paper to the Canson from above, then make a cone by gluing it from behind using the glue gun. 4 - Insert a drop of glue into the head and attach the wooden skewer. 5 - Place the cone under the head and insert the little arms made with the brass wire between the two, pouring a drop of glue inside the cone to hold it on the skewer.
6 - Next, glue the coat, folding back the fronts slightly, as the metallized paper is two-tone. 7 - Use magic fibers or wool to make the hair, then prepare a small rectangle measuring approx. 6 cm by 2.5 cm, from which cut out the tips to make the crown. Glue to head.
Optional for king characters: add a beard using wool or other materials.

Finishes

How to finish
8 - Finish by gluing on the stars or any other small accessory of your choice 9 - To finish, either cut the skewer under the Canson with pruning shears, or leave the skewer whole and prick the little character into a tree or plant...

Angels version

The angels
I also use this base to make Angels. Sympathetic Christmas table decorations...

Fairy version

The fairies
But also fairies that I prick into my plants, with the caveat that these fairies are only made from florist's non-woven.
Their dresses can be cut with notching scissors to give the bottom of the dress a lovely movement.
