Decorating a boy's bedroom
Here area few ideas and tips on how to give a 10-year-old boy's bedroom a soccer theme. Your soccer fan is a supporter of the OM club, which is an advantage in terms of decoration, as the club's colors are pleasantly toned, with a light turquoise blue contrasting with white and sometimes a stronger blue.
Before White walls and woodwork, with a touch of color in the form of a cute, wide frieze. The furniture is made of light-colored wood, some of it unfinished.
Theprinciple: take advantage of a few days' absence of the main character on the eve of his tenth birthday to launch the makeover! But just get the long and short of it out of the way, so that we can work out the most artistic ideas together...
With the bed dismantled and the furniture reassembled in the center of the room, the makeover begins with the thankless task of removing the existing frieze with a damp sponge and scraper, followed by a light sanding with sandpaper
The top and bottom edges of the future frieze are then marked with masking tape for painting.
On the back of the door are also glued pieces of tape to reproduce the "arrow cross" that appears on the club's jerseys...
The choice of paint
First of all, use natural paints (linseed oil binder) to avoid toxic substances in the nursery.
To obtain a color as particular as this "OM blue", a "pacific blue" colorant has been mixed with a sky blue.
The frieze is painted with a broad brush from the outside to the inside of the frieze, to avoid any overflow under the adhesive tape. After drying, a second coat of paint is necessary
The cross is painted with a putoiser brush (a round brush with a flat end used for stenciling). As with a stencil, the brush is first tapped onto a cloth, then painted by tapping the inside of the adhesive tapes.
These little extras are much appreciated...
A home-made sticker: above the bed, an image prepared on the computer (first name on a balloon) is printed on thick photo paper, then carefully cut out.
The makeover then moves on to furniture and shelving...
A rough-hewn wooden shelving unit, made earlier by our young handyman and his dad, is also given a two-tone makeover, with the edges painted a deeper blue.
So begins our young artist, who's discovered his partially refurbished bedroom, the "artistic" part of the stencilling.
This decor is so popular that a mirror, frames and even the shelving unit are stenciled next! Stencils are images (of logos, etc.) printed and reproduced on photo paper (as this paper is fairly waterproof yet easy to cut, it's ideal for making stencils that will be used a dozen times).
Beware of stencils with letters whose insides have to be removed (e.g. the "O" in "OM"): you need to recover the insides and place them at the same time as the stencil, right in the center of the "O" each time you use it... We've chosen 2 inverted stencils, for a more varied effect.
Once carefully cut, the stencil is glued on the back with temporary glue spray. Then simply position the stencil (first here and there on the frieze, then on the objects to be decorated) and tap the inside with a well-wiped brush.
Other ideas include... a net hung on the wall to act as a jumble sale (papers are held in place by wooden pins decorated with balloons),
wooden letters to stick on the wardrobe which becomes a "visitor's checkroom"...
