Christmas tree centerpiece

Christmas centerpiece

A beautiful Christmas table has at least one centerpiece, and for a long table, two smaller centerpieces on either side, of the same inspiration, are most effective. Here are some ideas for making centerpieces, to be prepared well in advance, and which can be embellished on Christmas Day with foliage, mistletoe, moss, harvested the day before...

A large, colorful tree in the center of the table

wooden fir tree decorated with beads
This double-sided fir tree is made from fir wood and is ready to install and... to paint and decorate.
The idea is to decorate each side with paint + beads, but in a slightly different way, so that depending on where you sit at the table, you'll see one side whiter, or the other redder.

Material
  • fir tree in raw wood, sold in online boutiques L'Art du bois
  • 2m fine gold-plated brass wire
  • about 15 red Miracle beads (8mm diameter)
  • 16 faceted 6mm crystal beads: 8 in matt crystal, 8 in red/orange, see the Bijoux et Perles boutique for retail purchase

Drilling stage

All you have to do is make small, random holes all over the tree (through which you'll thread the brass wire that holds the beads).

Painting stage

The paint is applied with acrylics, in a saucer of recuperated fir green, a little white and a little yellow. With a wide brush, you take a little paint and paint in small strokes in the natural direction of fir foliage. On one side, you accentuate the white, giving the impression of snow on the branches.
You can paint certain areas again, always in the same way, to multiply the shades of green. Paint the foot of the tree in the darkest green. Let dry. If you like the varnished look, now is the time to apply varnish, either by spray or brush.

Bead garland installation stage

Pass the brass wire through the highest hole on the tree and bend the end coming out of the back of the tree downwards to work on the front first. Wrap the wire along a pen to spiral it for about 2-3 cm, then thread a bead, bending the wire back on itself. Rotate the bead while holding the 2 wires to fix it in place. Continue spiralling the wire for another 2-3 cm, then thread the wire through the nearest hole and continue in the same way on each side.

Don't hesitate to mix two spirals together, crossing the spirals while trying to arrange the beads more or less evenly.
