The same template of letters forming the word NOEL as above is transferred to the center of a 20mm-thick rectangular pine board. The outline of the letters is marked with a fine chisel so that it can then be easily hollowed out to a thickness of about 3mm over the whole board, except for the top, which represents a rolled-up parchment-like paper. The bottom left-hand corner is even more hollowed out to represent the bottom of the "paper", also rolled up a little. The letters, the top of the parchment and the bottom corner are varnished colorless, while the background is varnished in a darker color.
