give new life to old objects by painting them on wood: they'll be both useful and decorative.

To restore an old wooden object, it is often useful to strip it. If the object is new, made of untreated wood (light-colored and unattractive), it is useful, after cleaning, sanding and dusting, to "prime" it with a uniform color. The choice is yours: bright, covering color or very diluted white, revealing the wood grain.

Usingstencils This is the quickest and easiest way to start painting on wood. There are now many rigid, plasticized stencils that are very practical to use. Some are even slightly self-adhesive, otherwise you need to fix the stencil with a temporary aerosol stencil glue (Odif's 404, for example) to hold it in place (one of the essential conditions for success!). If it's a one-off piece, try it out on paper to test your colors and the effect of the design: the pleasure of stenciling lies in the assortment of colors...

For this desk, leaves of different sizes and colors were painted around the perimeter using the stencil, which was cleaned after each painted leaf. On the sides of the board, the tree pot motif has become a barrier.

Stencil painting technique
For a "stippling" effect, it's best to use a short-handled stencil brush: more practical to use, the result is prettier too. Otherwise, use a flat-tipped brush. Tap with a brush whose excess paint has first been placed on a cloth. To avoid overflowing, the brush should be barely damp (otherwise the moisture will draw the paint through the wood fibres).
For a more melted paint, apply with a brush in circular movements to the cut-out areas of the stencil. Allow to dry before applying a second stencil if the motif requires it: some designs are obtained by using successive stencils.
