A low-cost drawing board

My passion: paper

I love paper for its different textures, its patterns, its smell... I use it on a wide range of surfaces: furniture, boxes, objects... Also, I have lots of them in all shapes and sizes, and I used to keep them in rolls.
When I wanted to use them on a large surface, the work was more difficult because they rolled up on themselves. So I decided to buy a large drawing board. But when I saw the price in the drawing materials section, it put me off a bit and I preferred to make my own drawing board. The result: I like it a lot and my sheets are well kept flat...

the technique

Box recovery
I took a large cardboard box and cut it to size. I reinforced the corners and folds with heavy scotch tape to keep it rigid when upright.
Drawing board fastener
Using cotton braid (or ribbon), I made 4 ties to hold the drawing board closed. I stapled the ties to the board, then covered the staples with sturdy scotch tape.
Manufacturing in progress
Here's the finished cardboard base.

Then there's the decoration...

of course paper-based. For the outside, I used Decopatch glue, as it glues and varnishes at the same time, making the cardboard even stiffer. For the inside, I used wallpaper glue, which costs less than Decopatch. Disadvantages: much longer drying time, the substrate drinks the glue, the paper doesn't stretch like with Decopatch and it's full of wrinkles...

And here's the finished box

I'll let you be the judge of the final result...
