Placemats for a festive summer table

Supplies

Supplies for wooden placemats
- 5mm plywood
- string
- shells or pearls of your choice
- paint of your choice

Material
- sandstone or sandpaper
- pyrograph
- glue gun
- scroll saw or jigsaw
-drill

Step 1

Cut the placemats to the desired shape in the plywood using the scroll saw or jigsaw. Cut the small "name tags" in the same way, but WARNING, these are not to be cut with the jigsaw as they are too dangerous, unless you have a vice! Then sand the edges.

Step 2

Cut a piece of string. Make a double knot at the end and insert it into the slot in the shell. Use the glue gun to apply one or two drops of glue where you have inserted the knot.

Step 3

Drill two holes on each side of the placemats you've just cut out, so 4 holes on each of them. And two holes, one at the top and one at the bottom of the little "name holders". Paint the placemats only. When your placemats are dry, thread pieces of string through the holes on each side and tie a knot on the back

Step 4

Using the pyrograph, write your guests' first names on the "name holders". Then pass the string with the shell at the end through the holes. Finally, pass the end of the string through one of the holes at the top of the set and tie a knot on the back

Step 5

Here is my choice of plate, napkin and table runner, as well as two ways to position your plates. For the record, I used cardboard plates.
