DIY vegetable garden

DIY vegetable garden vegetable indicators
A cute but very useful craft: planting markers to delimit the paths of the vegetable garden. Instead of small signs, these are wooden decorations in the shape of vegetables or fruit.
Painted and varnished, they can be used for years to come... a great way to get the kids involved in the kitchen garden at home.

Drawing and cutting

wooden vegetable cutting
Draw the shapes of the vegetables and fruit you'll soon be planting in the garden. Shown here are turnip, carrot, bell pepper, tomato and strawberry shapes. These shapes are to be reproduced for the number of alleys in the vegetable garden affected by these plantings. Cut these shapes from thin wood (approx. 5 mm). If you don't have a scroll saw, a jigsaw will do the trick, even if the outline isn't perfect, as these are outdoor decorations...

Painting stage

Start painting the vegetables
I used Jo Sonja's paints and made a few variations on the basis of these beautiful colors, with the idea of a slightly realistic but above all naive painting.
Painted vegetables
With brushes in hand, you'll quickly get the hang of it! Indispensable step: 2 to 3 coats of exterior varnish (marine varnish, for example), letting it air-dry between coats

Waiting for the vegetable garden...

And while you're waiting for the aisles to be formed and the planting to be done, the wooden vegetable and fruit decorations also make original magnets on the fridge...
