Scarf, flower hat and glove set for little girl
Knitting and crochet are more than ever a major trend in creative leisure activities. These manual activities, which used to be passed down from mother to daughter, are now shared in workshops with friends, where you can learn to knit or crochet not just fashion accessories, but also kitchen decorations, cuddly toys for babies and eco-friendly homemade toys! Knitting even has its own world day, on June 13! Because knitting is a mode of expression, an artistic activity where the choice of materials and the play of colors allow great creativity. on the other side of the Atlantic, knitting has taken to the streets to compete with street art graffiti: "yarn bombing " involves decorating streets, statues and trees with knitted or crocheted creations.

The difference between knitting and crochet?

Knitting and crochet are two different techniques. The former uses 2 to 4 needles, while the latter, as its name suggests, uses a crocheted rod to pull the yarn through. Another technique using yarns is macramé, which requires no special tools. Knitting and crochet both allow you to work with wool, cotton and acrylic fibers. Although their techniques are different, they are also complementary, as crochet is often required to finish or embellish a knitted model.

Soft toys and toys

Embroidering cuddly toys' noses and eyes
To make small toys or comforters for babies or toddlers, it's important not to use buttons or pearls to mark eyes or noses, but to embroider with cotton thread or wool to draw a mouth or nose...
Please remember to tighten the stitches to prevent the stuffing from escaping. Sew or crochet the different parts of a comforter together firmly, as babies will exert forces that are unimaginable!

Using a template

Worth knowing...
If you get fewer stitches and rows, it means you're knitting (or crocheting) too loosely: use finer needles (or a finer hook). On the contrary, if you get more stitches and rows, it means you're crocheting too tightly: use a thicker hook or thicker needles instead. To make a doudou larger than a model, simply use a thicker yarn or double the yarn quality by adapting the needle number.
