FIMO paste: Colors and marbling
Magali, our Fimo and
polymer clay specialist, shows us here the technique for mixing colors and creating marbling, illustrated with her photos.
" The real pleasure in FIMO or other modelling clay is to mix the colors together:
either in a solid color, or in a marbling effect.
Here's
a technique for obtaining a cameo from a single color, and then returning to exactly the same tones.

Modeland flatten 2 squares cut to the same dimensions, from 2 different colors of Fimo clay. |
|
Cut themdiagonally and invert 2 halves. |
|
Cuteach of these new squares into 4 lengths: by kneading each strip, you obtain a unique color, reproducible at will. Or you can create a marbled effect with declining intensity | ...

|
Fora marbling effect, knead two colors separately to soften them. Count 2/3 for the main color, 1/3 for the marbling color. |
Make two long colombins of the same length (but necessarily different diameters). Wrap the thinner over the thicker and form a new, smooth coil. Fold this into thirds, tucking in each end (for a smoother mix). Stretch and flatten to form a new strand. Repeat this operation 1 to 3 times. At the last folding of the ends, instead of stretching out, re-crease the colombin while smoothing it with the flat of your hand: the marbling has formed, i.e. the secondary color is divided into several colors. The thick colombin is no longer in 2 colors, but in several declining colors. The colombin can be cut to shape
beads, for example!
